This thread is to be an example of how you can use Flat Out War to create whatever game you want, how you want it. It is really set up to be tutorial for new players or guests to our forums looking things over.
For this I will be using the game idea I mentioned in the More Quirky Games thread.
I should say the reason I chose this game is because of the lack of WWII knowledge I have. I like most people understand the sequence of events that occurred, the major players, and some of the technology. I would not cosider myself well versed or a "buff". But that is ok, in fact it is perfect.
That is because this is where FOW really shines through. You do not have to have intimate details of a time period or a war to be able to apply FOW to it. Why because FOW does not use specific detail to create a game. If I do not know exactly what rifle US solddiers carried and their range then that is fine. I want to play a game and have a good time. I have some WWII miniatures. To play a WWII game and have fun all I really need to do is have a convincing theme. So that means the look should be right, and I have to create some units that are WWII-ish. In a way you can say you are applying a "skin" to FOW!
So lets get down to it...
The game is about an alien invasion during the middle of WWII. It has a very pulpish feel with saucers and rayguns. Humanity has temporarily but their hostilities on hold (more or less anyway...) to confront the invaders. Lets create some basic human units.
Next time Human units...
