I have an idea to convert splatball to a boardgame. The reasoning behind such a drastic move . . . For me, to set up a full blown Wargame takes time that could be better spent playing. I find board war games seem to be quicker to get up and running. Especially if the rules are simple.
Although most Board wargames are scenario driven, I would also like to include a "Standard battle" generator so that once you have played all the scenarios you can still progress further.
I will probably go with the common scenario format of adding more rules as you play the games (Start with basic units and terrain for the first scenario and then add more advanced units and terrain to each scenario after that!!)
I am still getting ideas and seeing what interest there is for this sort of thing.

Would be great. It is most time easier to get some people to play (and learn) board games than play tabletop wargames... Because of this it would be good if the rules are VERY simple. Mh... I think FOW-Rules ARE simple and good. Maybe after 4 or 5 scenarios the next scenario is: "And now drop the board, and play a real wargame"
@oversoul You find board war games seem to be quicker to get up and running.
Ever played Battlelore? ;D

I have to say that would be a splendid idea! Hex and counter? I'd suggest you stay clear of different dice in a boardgame. I can just imagine flippin' a counter and it showing a Paintballer covered in paint.

Battlelore has come to mind. In fact, looking back, a lot of my ideas have been influenced by the "Command and Colors" system. More so Memmoir '44, I think?!!
My original intent was Hexes , but I think I may go with a standard Square Grid first of all. This will make it easier to set up your typical Suburban terrain.
I would like to have the option of counters or miniatures. Originally I went Miniatures (We already have a supply ) but then I thought counters would be easier and quicker to construct and play with. The Terrain will probably be Tiles to start with, so counters will suit that format
I intend to use standard D6 for everything. The different units will just roll different numbers of dice and have different ranges.
Big units like the Armadillo, Badger, Groundhog and Battlewagons will be represented by Support cards that have effects on kids or combat rather than being an actual unit on the board.

Great Idea.
It brings to mind 'cry havoc', a medievil board wargame I used to play loads. Counters you flipped to show damage on the character, simple rules and loads of fun!!!
Bring it on!! I'm interested

I agree! Nice Counter!!
I have put some rules down on Paper, with most of the action taking place around houses and playgrounds. I will be doing some tests with a vanilla set and see how things go.

Okay, the counter is really good looking! But perhaps you could make a base/stand for the original figures with diferent attack/or-whatever on both sides of the base. Maybe not so easy, but would be look nice...
By the way: The idea of FNH sounds great! Give us Paintballer covered in paint for the normal game!
PLEASE!

The Game is developing more! I have started on some of the pieces and board. Zukar's idea of using stand-ups has got me thinking. I will try to keep you up to date with the progress of everything

The counters are okay, but:
No green counters with nothing on it? Or is the "main" board green?
What the F*#* are the counters right to the blue house?? (The yellow thing with a red and 3/4 blue whatever?) What are the two grey?Picnic-tables?? The last counter are ammon/air suppley?
Maybe you describe them in the rulebook, but i think it is always better that people look on a counter and say: "hey, what a little swing and slips and there the tree. Lets have a look in the rulebook if they grand me cover."
Something other:
Whats about a mommy-figure? Give her random movment. If one of the kidZ is in the same space, the kid had to go home/leave play. "Albert, dinner is ready!" Or the angry neighbour: "Leave my garden, you stupid kid!"
Maybe the postman or a large dog: cover that is (randomly?) moving.
Or the ice-cream-dare (is it correct?? a car where to buy ice-cream) It moved along the street, every kid 3-4 spaces away had to move the next turn in its direction.

The Board is green, so the terrain is just for adding some variety to the board.
The yellow red and blue counters are Playground equipment. My nephews and nieces had no trouble recognising them but then they have played on the pieces that I modelled them off. You guessed the picnic tables, so they must look like right.
There are explanations in the rulebook that should be good enough. Unrecognisable objects are not uncommon in boardgames!!
I like your other ideas (they may even get into an expansion - Traps and Troubles) but I will keep the main game basic, to start off with. However, you could add your ideas to Splatball FOW games easily!!

Mh... played the games a lot of times.... As said befor, I like the flats more than the couters... Today, after loaded the "offical" flats, I see what was missing the hole time.. Maybe the token informations had to be on the flats. We used the counters as sort of reference sheet. And most people did know the informations after the 3-4 game. Mh. Maybe the flats without the information are the best.

Now that I have the basic SBSL game available for download, I will probably start working on some expansions.
Although 'Mall Legend' and 'Winter Wonderland' sound great and will offer lots of new possibilities, I think I will make Suburban Wilderness the next expansion as it uses the same board.
Here is a bit of a sneak peek:
Terrain-wise, it will add the 'New' impassable terrain of rivers. (With Bridges so you can cross them) The Hill - which is really just a higher lump of earth and will allow you to increase your range by 1. The Cubby House - which gives a minus 2 to the Dice. And some more unlandscaped bushes! Unit-wise, it will add 4 more Bushwhacker units and 2 more Balloon launcher units to the mix. There will also be two totally new units which Bryn has already done the artwork for.
The time frame for release is still a 2 or 3 months away.

Some people like to drive out to old gravel pits and empty lots on the edge of town and dump sofas, refrigerators, junk cars- which could all be combined for a nifty junk fort or used seperately as cover.
