Thanks! Once I clean up my FOW Aeronaval experiments I'll post them here for review and revision. I'm currently stumped by trying to create a penalty mechanism for overloading flyers. I know that's vague, I'll explain in detail later once I do the cleanup.
See ya guys! Eric

Well, one of the things that would help would be to find a page addendum to FOW that covered 1/1200th space and naval actions that you'd written up for Shaungamer88. The current download of FOW doesn't have that page, so I'm working from memory as to how some things (boarding actions in particular) were handled. I know it was meant as a rough draft, but it would help if I had it again.
The modifications I've done aren't that huge, except that I deliberately misinterpreted the explanation of carrying capacity to read as 'and' instead of 'or' to figure out how to equip the gunships. I created a quality called 'lift' for flying vessels that determines their max altitude, I'm using the same altitude bands from SGOM as I think that height relations are more interesting in an aerial combat game.
I finally picked up the rules for Aeronef and they're okay, a little dull, but very functional for large actions. How are they different from a standard naval game though? There are no mechanics for different altitudes as they didn't feel they were necessary, and they would get in the way with the large scale games that this system was designed for. The models are nice. I'm looking for a game that isn't as detailed as SGOM, where there is record-keeping for crew-allocations and hull damage and destroyed weapons and damage to masts, and, and, and-which is great when you are only running one or two ships. Past that it starts to bog a bit. SGOM is intended for someone who wants to be a sky captain and have their own vessel, the FOW Aeronaval idea I'm working on is intended to fall somewhere between SGOM and Aeronef so you can handle a squadron of vessels.
.......Where was I? Oh yeah, 'Lift'. So I built a table of cost multipliers for max altitude and hull size and if you exceeded the payload of the hull size you had to pay for the altitiude cost of the next larger vessel...but then why wouldn't you just buy the larger hull to start with? Perhaps a penalty multiplier for going over hull size that isn't as drastic. Like I said, that's the vague part.
As much as possible I'm trying to keep within the FOW framework of keeping things streamlined so there isn't a lot of record keeping. When ships get hit from an aspect you'll roll individually for the weapons there (save as their die) and the ship gets it's standard save. If weapons fail then they (and their associated crew) are marked off a ship record sheet. If the hull fails then the ship loses a level of max altitude as it's structural integrity begins to break down, when the altititude boxes are used up the ship crashes. SGOM called it a loss of trim. So a bigger ship has to pay more to go higher, and is probably going to make it's saves more often, so that seemed to balance out. Flying around blowing ships apart works fine, it's just that one design mechanic (Lift table cost) that's flawed.
That was a bit rambley. Anyways, that's the gist of it. I'll see about uploading a cleaner version of this this weekend.

I figured this would be the best place to say hi... You might wonder what a Crazy Quilter does on this forum. Well... I am Bryn's wife, and is slowly dragged into the loop. No, not into gaming as such. Bryn has not succeeded totally yet. I am rather slipping into the company of Oversoul-Games... And I might not be overly active here, I just wanted to say hello. And yes; Bryn made my logo! /Beatrice, aka Eva
