I'm wondering if there is any interest in making a commercial version of the Dungeon Plung'n rules?
I ask, because there is definitely interest in this sort of thing. And I know I can get a large number of figures done for this type of game.
I'd personally like to see a basic set with a single adventure, then adventure modules with floor expansions and a figure set.
I can sell them through One monk miniatures.
I realize you guys started this with the goal of selling the final products. I feel that you can offer free basic editions, and high quality and organized editions for sale. people will pay for convenience and quality. JIM

I now understand you guys set this up and ended up deciding to provide stuff for free. You guys should continue to do this.
I am actually more interested in just licking you guys in butt to get active again ;D I think by providing some commercial versions of your current designs, maybe revised and tweaked, that you will generate more interest and activity here.
I totally understand the time constraints you guys are under. I can only imagine how little free time you get with families and children, let alone the energy to design stuff when you do get time.
Also, anything to do with your guy's games and figures would only be linked to this website and forum. The last thing I want to do is to steal visitors, just the opposite, I want to direct more people here.
I set up the COOP thing to help those of you guys who would like to try selling, without all the trouble of doing the store setup, product packaging, and all the other stuff involved with selling. All you need to do is design your stuff, let me organize and package it to sell, and put it up for sale. I would totally like to see you guys do this yourselves, I am only offering you an easier way to do it. JIM

It WOULD get us out of our lethargy. Unfortunately, DP does have some minor flaws and although they can be resolved with common sense, it is still a matter of finding and fixing them. I just don't know if we can get the time to do the repairs that are required for a commercial release. I also think doing a ruleset for sale, may result in some difficulties further down the line.
However, I would think that figures would be a different kettle of fish. It may be worthwhile selling figure sets that can be used for DP. DP will still require some work, but hopefully not as much as a commercial release would entail.
Naturally the figure sets would require a more polished finish. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hmmm.... Yes, that would probably be the way to go. Let the rules be for free and have themed sets of minis for sale. That concept could be used with other games too... TwH, Splatball, FoW (with its 'sub games') and so on... It could work. /

Offering just figures would be good, and there would be a rules to support them. keeping the rules free does take some of the pressure off to continually revise and tweak them. JIM

So has this gone any further yet? I know that DP is under a rewrite, does this mean that Jim might get his wish of seeing a good Dungeon Crawl game hit the shelves?

Feedback from the playtesters, suggest that the new rewrite is a great improvement, but probably not commercial quality. So I think we will stick with plan B and continue to release the rules for free. Surely people will like getting something good for nothing!!

if you were going to go commercial and sell figure sets, i think it would be great to maintain the cartoonyness of the game (something i really like) and to keep the miniatures 2d and have them laser/water jet cut from wood/plastic. not cheap but cheaper than finding a sculptor and having them cast. still have the "print and play" version for free but pay to upgrade to the deluxe version.

That would be really nifty. But, alas, no. The discussion so far regarding selling or not selling is still about .pdf files to download from the net. But it would be cool to see our minis printed and cut from thin plastic material like the ships of Pirates of Spanish Main. Never say never...

i was actually thinking about them being a bit thicker, say 1/2 cm to keep the cartoon look but give them a bit of depth as well

I wouldnt mind paying for more miniatures for this game, a pdf with say 6-12 miniatures (Color and B&W) would be nice for 2-4 USD. Even a tile addon set would be nice for this with special tiles only available thru a paid pdf. You could have a Hero set and a monster set that comes out every couple months. New Monster types would be greatly appr. One note one the monster sets you need to put the stats for the new monsters in the pdf One thing i havnt seen is props for this game, no piles of treasure tiles or other such things. A 1x1 or 2x2 tile for those props would be nice. thanks

I am glad to see so much intrest in our stuff that peopleare now saying they would like to buy it. ;D
The problem always comes down to time. In order to make time to sell stuff you have to have time to create it. Time is finite, there is only so much to go around and if I use it for minis then it is being taken from somewhere else (family or work).
Still the idea to make a product and sell it has been toying in my head again for sometime. But producing something like a commercial version of DP has some snags, one so much free stuff about DP is already out there that making a commercial version would be hard. Why am I paying for something on the net for free already. That leaves just doing minis for sale. Which would be fine but people expect regular infusions of their favorite product. And I am not sure that would be possible. The other problem is Oversoul Games is now tied with the ideas of cartoony games(which I love) and being free...which poses a problem fir doing anything commercial....You guys are suppose to be offering great games for free!
But alas the idea STILL remains... I have a few more things up my sleeve and squirming around in my head that have not been brought forth yet.
A Co-op is something I have thought about as well Jim! Send me a PM, I would love to discuss it. Not saying I would do it but I would love to comapre notes with you on what a paper mini co-op could be.
Any way just ranting

I have already been down the road of Co-op with Jim. It failed due to lack of interest/time/whatever from my part. We decided to close the co-op before we went public because I would not be able to produce at the speed customers demand. Jim was/is a great sport however, he even made a placeholder webpage for my possible Pygmy page. onemonk.com/pygmiesWe had loose plans to expand the Pygmy ranges with more cartoon minis. I have to confess that I will not be able to keep promises or production to a level demanded. But the page layout exists, it could easily be changed to DP with a new Logo graphic. We decided to keep the minis for sale outside the oversoul-games just because oversoul always have been and always will be (according to me, at least) for free. /PJ

I am also rethinking what I want to do with the cartoon figure designs. I think I might just be better off doing them for fun and posting them here at your site.
Regarding a commercial version. I think Bryn has the right idea. I think first there has to be the time available to everyone participating, then go down the commercial rout. I would think that at least a release a month would be enough to hold interest.
I'll probably come around to making more cartoon designs, but for now I am really grinding away on my own styles figures. JIM
