Greetings everyone,
I have been lost wandering around the web for a while now and it amazes me how many names have been applied to what some of us simply call paper figures.
I once set up a game at a local hobby shop using paper figures and heard a variety of comments. Other than the response of - I'd never game with that cheap stuff, why don't you use real miniatures? I heard a wide range of descriptions for them. My jaunts around the net only complicated this confusion.
In many cases they were not called Paper but Card, Cardstock or Cardboard. The title - Figures or Miniatures seems to be interchangeable.
What varied were the attempts to rename them as something else. Here is a sample of what I have discovered: Flats Stand-Ups (not to be confused with lifesize) Stand-Ins (not to be confused with actors) 2D printable characters 3D printable characters Folded (not to be confused with the group) Proxy's/Proxies/Proxees Disposable (not to be confused with the rule set) Fonts
Which can be shaped like: Tents Triangles Squares T's
So what does everyone here call these strange little creations?

So what does everyone here call these strange little creations? Pygmies...? ;D Just joking, I call the minis paper minis. And the terrain is either 2.5D models (trees) or 3D models (houses). But that is only my 2 cents. As you clearly stated in your post there are a bunch of names for the stuff. As far as I am concerned no name is wrong - as long as everyone understands each other. /B
