can't remember where I read about it, but I followed this guy's idea about printing and assembling DP at a smaller scale; basically what I did was to resize all of the DP miniatures so that the basing tab was 1/2" (which actually could not be 50% size since to be fitted in a 1" base the tabs were probably shorter than that at 100% to begin with, but whatever), and resizing all the DP tiles accordingly; I already talked about it in some other post, but since then I've been able to put my hands on some new toner, and began printing and cutting the miniatures; as soon as I come back from my girlfriend's on monday I should be able to get some 3mm foamboard (if I'm lucky it'll be black foamboard, but here in Rome that color is somewhat rare, so I could be stuck with white) and continue cutting and putting the whole thing together; as soon as I have some new material I'll post it on this thread, for now all I have to say is that mini DP is looking to be real good, I'll keep you guys informed..!

Mini DP sounds like a great idea. I sometimes think I should have done my set at a smaller scale, although it does look impressive when set up.
I would still be interested in seeing photos of your own set!

yeah! there it was, I tried finding it on the DP forum but couldn't, and I didn't think about searching for it on the blogs... ;D anyway I'm going to take pics of the set as soon as I manage to put together some more things, but sometimes into the next week I should be able to snap some photos... Now onto some considerations about the process: to begin with, after resizing the miniatures (I work on 600dpi photoshop sheets, I know it's probably more than I should need, but since my printer reaches this resolution, I go for the best that there is... ) - and actually having to enlarge them (due to high dpi settings) - I added a 20 points black trace to them, in order to thicken the black outline of the minis... this step gave me one big help: with black gone into the fine recesses of the miniatures and on the outside of them, I was able to cut them without it being too much of a pain due to the smaller scale; there is one consideration to be done anyway: the thickened black outline does give a somewhat darker shade to the whole miniature, but IMO it's way better than to go mad with cutting through some impossible small spaces... I could say that in the end, despite having resized the minis at 50% scale or so, they ended up having the same thickness of black outline as their bigger counterparts (in assolute numbers, ie)... I printed them at best setting on 200g/m^2 paper, and I was thinking about getting some matte varnish to finish them off and avoid any of the toner from flaking with time, what do you guys think of it..? anyone ever used something like that..? stay tuned for updates anyway...

ok, dp mini is going swift and nice into form; up to now I've prepared (yet to be based) all the heroes (humans and dwarves) plus all the monsters for Knocking the Wall (I printed 1 minor demon and EIGHT of each other monster, for any situation or new quests), plus Garhakka & the princess from DOR, and some more extras (onemonk's dark knight, paladin and dwarf warrior, and shadowolf's sorcerer and ogres), plus 12 6x6 rooms and 10 6x2 corridors..! I've also already printed all the basic tiles, and I just need to cut them out of the foamboard and edge them; then I'll pass on printing the other monsters and other tiles... ;D I've just to get used to basing with such diminutive bases (1/2" each!), and I also think I may or may not have slightly modified the relative dimensions between miniatures and tiles, since while resizing the set I assumed the basing tabs to be 1", and proceeded to resize them at 1/2" (not just half-size them, since I also modified the dpi value of the image), not thinking that maybe they were intended as less-than-1"-tabs to be fitted into 1" bases... anyway, the effect on the board is not bad at all, I'll try to get pics online as soon as I return home and get some basing done..!

ok, a VERY wip series of pics showing what I've done so far..! a view of the basic tiles I've prepared 'til now, there are: 6x6 room: 12x 6x2 hallway: 10x T, L, X hallways: 8x each entrance, sarcophagus, fountain: 2x each the very first minis I've based; believe it or not, but at this size basing has proven to be the hardest part... my hand holding Garhakka to give a comparison of the mini's dimensions... you can also guess the component's dimensions using the grid that's on my cutting mat: every square is 1cm wide; by the way, my laser printer kinda sucks and toner tends to flake away (as you can see on poor Garhakka... ), in fact I bought a matte varnish I intend to spray over the minis and tiles to protect them while playing..! an eagle view of all the other minis awaiting to be based..!! ...and there's more to be printed yet..! ;D EDIT: oh, and don't be afraid of the BIG coloring problems that appear with my camera's macro function on, they are more than invisible at playing level...

Looking excellent! Yes, Laser printers have an issue with flaking. Using a knife and cutting mat rather than scissors usually limits the flaking to the edges. Then its just a matter of blacklining to clean them up. However everything looks fantastic!!

thanks shaun, now I'm taking the weekend off as I go at my gf's, but I count to continue setting the game up on monday... by the way, from your experience, are those tiles I put togheter up to now sufficient for a standard dungeon (ie: one between the released ones ) without having to remove them from somewhere in order to build other sections..? you know, being a "travel edition" I'd like to be able to deploy the whole dungeon without having to unmount it in some areas, and resorting to the map-maker only for turn counting and for the eventual rebuild after a mid-dungeon stop... so, should I build some more basic tiles, or can I procrastinate it till I get my hands on some bigger yet-to-be-released dungeon..? EDIT: minor typos

I was going through some Legos to see if I had enough to build a dungeon...doesn't look like I do, but an oversized version of DP would be awesome.

Hey! You have some colored OneMonk minis that I don't have! That is not fair, I demand to have them! Just kiding, but please share them! Your Evil Knight is way better than mine. Regarding your photos, they look great! I've also managed to print tiles and minis at 50% size and they do look great, but while I still haven't mounted them (I'm having trouble finding a good substitute for foamboard wich I can't find nearby), I think they are a bit too small for my tastes... well, actually no, the tiles are too small, the minis look great. Perhaps reducing the tiles to 70%, while the minis to 50% size would make play easier. I'm even thinking about printing the minis at 75% of their original size, while leaving the tiles with 1 inch squares, so the heroes and monsters fit better without bumping into each other...

yeah, the tiles are somewhat tiny relative to the minis, since most of the latter, while having a small basing tab, often exceed them, and the probability of bumpings is definitely there... at the moment I decided to keep the tiles at 50%, but I'll keep myself open to resizing them in case they result too difficult to be played on... 70% of the original size sounds good, I'll see how it plays and let you guys know... still, what a pity, with 50% tiles I manage to squeeze six 6x6 rooms plus five 6x2 hallways all into one sheet... in case I'll need to re-edit the printing sheets... anyway, my evil knight SEEMS better than yours, but still it's just colored with plain colors and photoshop effects miming (badly, I have to add) metallic surfaces... if you guys want them I'll see to give you guys my dwarf warrior, paladin, dark knight and yet-to-be-printed halfling warrior, but know that they're definitely worse than any of the colorings I've seen thus far...
