I don't know about any tutorials, sorry. I just use the burn/dodge tools over plain colors but I also use a tablet, so it's much more natural than click-hold mouse-drag-erase because it looks awfull. And since DP minis are printed small (specially if you want half-size), I can be a little reckless with the color burns and small details.

quick update: things are going good, I need only to cut&base doors and chests and I'll be ready for the knocking wall quest..! I'm also halfway through preparing Den of the orcish raiders' material (which will also serve for TTL), I'll post pics as soon as I have some time shooting them...

w00t, I'll sure check it out asap..! thanks dan..! by the way, it's some time since I began wondering, those space marines minis some of you guys keep as avatars, where can they be downloaded..? I assume they're for use with space skulk, of which I only have the tiles, and I wouldn't mind to put my hands on some minis... also, are there any skulk aliens to be used with it? apart from the excellent alien drone and egg from shadowolf, ie...

They were meant for something that did not fly, so they became avatars.

out of curiosity... are you basing these mini DP figures with foamcore? do you think they are too light and easily blown away by, say, your very own breath?

yeah, I'm basing them that way; they are kinda lightweight, but I've tested them by poking them and they resist casual bumpings; true, if you deliberately blow on them they're gonna scatter all over the place, but I don't play with little children, so that should not prove to be a problem... what worries me the most though, it's the inner flakability of laser printer toner, I've still to spray varnish the minis, so I'm always super cautious not to damage the print...

it is done! all that's needed to play TTL, DOR and KW is printed, cut, and prepared to play, now I just gotta find a moment to start a game and take some pictures..! ;D I'll let you guys know as soon as I manage to get a game going... EDIT: ok, after nearly intoxicating myself with the finish (while you ask, yes, I DID spray it outside, and yet I managed to nearly poison me with the thing, due to a combination of wrong winds, wet floor and small maneuvering space - I was on my balcony) I have to say that the minis look GORGEOUS with the thing applied to them..!! having used 200g/m^2 paper has meant that after folding the minis I ended up with the equivalent of 400g/m^2 paper thickness, and that combined to the plastic-like feel the finish has granted to the minis has made them really beautiful to the eye while great to feel in hand..! I must say, I'm really happy with the result until now, and I'm kinda planning on finishing the tiles as well... still, I've yet to metabolize all the petroil I inhaled before spraying the thing again!

Although I usually use a laminator for my figures, I used to use a spray low sheen finish on them. The one thing it does do is leave a nice look to them- they look professionally produced that way. I have been working on some scaled down miniatures in a different style since you started this mini DP thing. They are chubby little guys that print at 22mm head to foot at 300 dpi. Some of them could be rescaled slightly to fit in with your mini dp figures or uscaled to fit in with regular dp figs. They are being designed for mass armies to use with Oversoul's Flat out War game. Looks like the mini miniature bug might catch on www.flickr.com/photos/31222610@N02/4187378546/www.flickr.com/photos/31222610@N02/4187378604/www.flickr.com/photos/31222610@N02/4186616431/Now that I have 6 weeks holidays from work, I should get heaps of stuff done (famous last words) Paul

Goodness gracious, Paul! They are amazing! I love the way you draw! And I looooooooovvvve your "Kight of Ni"! Looks like the mini miniature bug might catch on Always a good thing! (I usually don't like to spam these things, but, here's a link to a web flash game that I think you'll enjoy: an ancient greek beat-em-up with cute characters and weapons. Made me even more fond of Shadowolf's greek minis! Check it out: www.nitrome.com/games/doubleedged/ )

holy crap, those are some really nice minis you started out there..! I'd love to print them, as soon as you color and backside them (*poke&hint@erf*)..! err... and while I'm here, knowing you've got 6 weeks worth of time doing stuff, I'd remember you of some poor undeads without an arse... anyway, speaking of finish, the minis are still taking fresh air outside my window, since they still kinda stink when put together into the box; ...and what do you mean by laminating? Is it like when you sandwich paper between two transparent plastic layers, that's done with heat? doesn't that process leave a huge transparent border around the whole mini..? EDIT: typos

yep, thats the laminating I mean. It does leave a border a few mm's around the black border. The advantage is the miniatures are indestructible. Also I cut the card tab off before laminating and cut a tab from the heat set plastic sheet. This is very quick and easy to insert into a foamcore base slot. They do look better without the laminate, but this way my 3 year old can't hurt my figures when he plays with them Paul
